Its editorial activity reflects the mission of the Art Conservation Support Association to promote responsible research and informed professional practice in the field of cultural heritage conservation and restoration.
The ethical principles below guide the work of authors, editors, reviewers, and all contributors involved in the editorial process.
Academic Integrity and Originality
All submitted works must represent original research or original scholarly syntheses. Authors are responsible for ensuring that their manuscripts:
present authentic research results and properly document sources;
acknowledge the contributions of other researchers through appropriate citation;
do not contain plagiarism, redundant publication, or other forms of academic misconduct.
Any form of plagiarism, data falsification or fabrication, or improper attribution of authorship is unacceptable and may result in rejection or retraction.
Author Responsibilities
Authors submitting manuscripts must:
ensure the accuracy and credibility of the information presented;
respect intellectual property rights;
clearly indicate all sources, references, and visual materials used;
obtain permissions for copyrighted materials;
disclose any potential conflicts of interest.
Authors are also responsible for presenting conservation and restoration documentation in accordance with professional and ethical standards.
Editorial Responsibility
Editors are responsible for ensuring the quality, scientific relevance, and ethical integrity of published works. Editorial decisions are based solely on scientific merit, relevance, and compliance with editorial standards.
Editors must:
evaluate manuscripts objectively and without discrimination;
ensure confidentiality;
avoid conflicts of interest;
take appropriate action in cases of suspected misconduct.
Peer Review
Manuscripts may undergo editorial and scientific peer review by specialists. The process ensures scientific quality, methodological rigor, and relevance.
Reviewers are expected to:
provide objective, constructive, and confidential evaluations;
assess scientific merit and clarity;
identify uncited relevant work;
disclose conflicts of interest.
Ethical Use of Cultural Heritage Documentation
Authors must ensure that documentation, images, and case studies are presented responsibly and in accordance with professional standards.
Research must respect the integrity of heritage objects, monuments, and cultural sites, as well as ethical conservation principles.
