Abstract
Interdisciplinarity – the theme of the 2017 issue of Caietele Restaurării – is the “red thread” that connects, or should connect, every intervention on a work of art.
Caring for our cultural heritage belongs to all of us, regardless of profession or social status. The actual intervention, however, must be entrusted to the specialist, and the restorer’s effort, without the contribution of the art historian, chemist, biologist, petrographer, or structural engineer, as the case may be, can prove futile.
We can therefore very well translate “interdisciplinarity” as “together,” because only together can our heritage endure.
