The Restoration Notebooks 2022 (XI)

Abstract

The 2022 issue of The Restoration Notebooks addressed the theme “Authentic and Functional” through a theoretical synthesis examining the ways in which the concept of authenticity has been defined in the major international charters concerning the conservation and restoration of monuments.

This analytical framework was complemented by relevant case studies illustrating both appropriate conservation practices and interventions that may lead to the degradation or loss of heritage values. The editorial approach also included examples of best practices, critical notes, analytical and applied research contributions, as well as the presentation of methodologies, discoveries, and strategies for the enhancement and valorization of built heritage.

Through this thematic focus, the issue contributed to ongoing professional debates regarding the balance between authenticity, functionality, and intervention in the conservation of cultural heritage.
