Despre restaurare. Ghid pentru copii – Introducere în patrimoniul picturii murale

Art Conservation Support (ACS) – echipă interdisciplinară de restauratori și istorici de artă

2016

Abstract

In 2016, the Art Conservation Support Association (ACS) developed, alongside its scholarly editorial activity, an educational direction dedicated to young audiences, integrated within the cultural project “About Restoration”. This initiative aimed to bring children closer to cultural heritage and to explain, in accessible language, how works of art are preserved, restored, and understood. The publications were conceived as illustrated educational guides, used within workshops and activities held in Bucharest and Bukovina, including museums, schools, and cultural spaces.

About Restoration. Children’s Guide – Introduction to the Heritage of Mural Painting is the first guide, created as an educational resource within workshops held in Bukovina and Bucharest, addressed to pupils and young people interested in cultural heritage. The publication explains, in accessible language, what it means to restore a mural painting or an artwork, how a historical image is interpreted, and why interventions on monuments must be carried out by specialists. This guide is part of ACS’s strategy of early cultural education, complementary to its scientific restoration activity, and supports the idea of an open dialogue between specialists and young audiences, in the spirit of long-term heritage protection.

This publication served as an introduction to the world of restoration, explaining in a child-friendly way:

  • what cultural heritage is;

  • how a conservator “reads” a painting or an old object;

  • why monuments need protection;

  • what intervention on an artwork actually means.
