Medieval Monuments of Bukovina
Tereza Sinigalia, Oliviu Boldura

Abstract
The volume Medieval Monuments of Bukovina, authored by Tereza Sinigalia and Oliviu Boldura and published by ACS Publishing in 2015, is a reference work dedicated to one of the most valuable ensembles of medieval art in Eastern Europe. The book offers an extensive exploration of the monuments of Bukovina, renowned for their exterior mural paintings included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, bringing together scholarly research, restoration expertise, and a rich visual documentation.
Structured as a cultural and visual guide, the volume goes beyond a traditional monograph, providing readers with both a historical perspective on the region and its monuments and a direct insight into the world of medieval mural painting. The texts are supported by more than 400 images produced during research and conservation campaigns — including architectural ensembles, painted details, and aerial views as well as on-site restoration documentation.
The book also includes maps, plans, and suggested cultural routes, turning the reading experience into a genuine journey of heritage discovery. Conceived within the “Hearths of Light” series, the publication aims to promote an informed form of cultural tourism, focused on understanding the historical and artistic value of monuments rather than simply visiting them.
Through the scholarly rigor of its authors — specialists in medieval art history and restoration — and its exceptional visual richness, Medieval Monuments of Bukovina stands as an essential resource for researchers, students, restorers, and all those interested in cultural heritage.
