Enrich your understanding through the beauty of monuments that have brought international recognition and appreciation to the region.
Medieval Monuments of the Târnava Valley continues the cultural journey previously begun in Bukovina and Oltenia.
The volume includes:
a thoroughly documented text written by experts in medieval art history and conservation-restoration;
more than 700 previously unpublished images — aerial views, interior and exterior photographs, as well as details of medieval mural paintings photographed from restoration scaffolding;
maps of the monuments and suggested travel routes;
plans and elevations of monuments and architectural ensembles.
The guide presents 15 of the region’s most representative medieval heritage sites: the Reformed (Calvinist) Church in Alma Vii (Alma), the Evangelical (Lutheran) churches of Biertan, Băgaciu, Dârlos, Ighișu Nou, Ațel, Curciu, Mălâncrav, Moșna, Nemșa, Brateiu, Richiș, and Șmig, together with the most important examples of sacred and secular architecture in Mediaș and Sighișoara.
Alongside architecture and sculpture, the book also highlights the medieval mural paintings that often decorate these buildings, as well as objects of artistic and historical significance preserved within them, including winged altarpieces, furniture, liturgical objects, and more.
The proceeds from the sale of this guide support the activities of the Art Conservation Support Association, contributing to publication, conservation, and heritage recovery projects dedicated to Romania’s cultural patrimony.
