Sus, pe acoperiș! Pippin și cavalerii în armură

Abstract

Up on the Roof! Pippin and the Knights in Armor is a book that brings together the adventures of the little blue tit Pippin and the works of one of the greatest sheet-metal craftsmen of interwar Bucharest, Alexandru Dimitriu.

The book opens with the story “There’s No Place Like Home!”, whose narrative thread is interwoven with sequences from other Pippin stories, creating the script for the stage play “Pippin, Make a Wish!” The central story, “There’s No Place Like Home!”, is about finding the right place for everyone, about friendship and brilliant ideas, but also about learning to appreciate what you already have.

The second part of the book tells readers about the master tinsmith Alexandru Dimitriu, about the knights he crafted and placed atop various buildings, as well as the many sheet-metal and slate roofs he created throughout the country. In order to admire some of the craftsman’s works, the author proposes a walking route through central Bucharest, in the area between Piața Romană and Piața Victoriei.

The four houses included in this route are presented individually, each featuring a detailed description of a particular architectural or decorative element. By following the trail, young readers will discover a new world—a world of rooftops and heights—and will uncover the answers to the questions hidden throughout the pages of the book.
