The Restoration Notebooks 2020 (IX)

Abstract

The 2020 issue of The Restoration Notebooks was structured around a theme that combines both the analysis of case studies and reflection on the specific challenges of interventions on cultural heritage: Heritage Between Intervention and the Pressure of Time. The editorial approach aimed to highlight the inherent tension between the necessity of conservation and intervention on works of art and the constraints generated by deadlines, material resources, and legislative limitations.

Although the theme had been established prior to the outbreak of the pandemic, the public health context further emphasized its relevance, introducing additional difficulties and unpredictable working conditions that tested the adaptability of professionals in the field.

Within this framework, the journal reaffirmed the importance of professional cohesion, the continuity of activities dedicated to heritage preservation, and the need to make intervention practices and results more visible. It also emphasized the importance of training new generations of specialists and of effective communication with the wider public, in order to strengthen a culture of heritage protection.

The publication continues to assume its role as a platform for the dissemination of knowledge, aiming to include in future issues contributions relevant to informing and supporting the field of tangible cultural heritage conservation. Each issue is developed through the contributions of specialists, encouraging the active involvement of the professional community in shaping the editorial content.
