The Restoration Notebooks 2024 (XIII)

Abstract

The theme of the thirteenth issue of The Restoration Notebooks, “The Monument as a Whole”, is closely connected to the activities of Art Conservation Support (ACS) and to the cultural projects developed by the association. It reflects an ongoing commitment to promoting an integrated understanding of cultural heritage, based on the principle that monuments should not be approached in a fragmented manner. Even when interventions target specific components or areas, they must be conceived in relation to the monument as a whole, taking into account not only aesthetic coherence, but also material compatibility and the impact on the preservation of original fabric.

In this context, the issue highlights the importance of collaboration among specialists and of interdisciplinary approaches, both essential for the development of appropriate and sustainable conservation strategies. The discussion extends beyond the visual dimension of restoration to include technical and methodological aspects, emphasizing the interdependence between the structural and artistic components of heritage buildings.

The 2024 edition brings together 15 articles authored by 20 specialists in the field of cultural heritage conservation, covering a wide range of topics, from theoretical reflections to case studies and applied interventions. Through this diversity of contributions, the journal supports the dissemination of knowledge and facilitates professional exchange, thereby contributing to the advancement of conservation practices and to a broader understanding of tangible cultural heritage.
